THE SOCIETAL CANCER: THE MICROWAVE MENTALITY

The millennial generation that we are in is the all-time consumer of the Microwave mentality. In 30 seconds we want to hear our microwaves beep with our Range Rovers outside waiting for us with little to no investment of any kind just because we are entitled little brats, hehe!

The excitement before the unrealistic results that never comeπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Instant gratification is a drug that has been force fed to us through social media if you ask me. We have been made to believe that we need to have achieved amazing and grandeur things right this very minute, whether we have the means or we don't. It has to be achieved by any means necessary. We buy things we do not need and can't afford, with money we do not have all out to please the masses and prove our apparent social standing. Doing it for the Gram, huh?!

Where is the lie?
The need for instant gratification manifests itself in more ways than one. It is the child of impatience, birthed together with comparison and sent to bring unnecessary expectation to the lives of many.

Looking for Sponsors, getting into illegal businesses or get rich schemes are at an all-time high because of the Microwave mentality. This "Sponsorship Programme" is being normalized and seen as one of the ways of making a comfortable living. I once heard a lady say:

" My Vagina si sabuni; haitawai isha"
 πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Simply put, we were blatantly being told to mind our own business, which we did after a hearty laugh at the arrogance displayed. Women are openly selling their bodies just to avoid working hard and making something for themselves by themselves. Older men are partaking under the premise that they are already providing for their families, so why not?

Young ladies are looking up to Vera Sidika and Huddah Monroe now! Imagine that! Imagine that!? RIDICULOUS, isn't it? How did socialites ever become people we would ever want to become!?  Wanting to be on Nairobi Diaries is now a life goal!

Please take me with you😒😒😒😒

BBC News Africa is doing a feature on stories of Sugar Daddy- young women relationships in Kenya. "Female students prefer dating older men than dating school kids" in Nairobi, says 21-year-old Jane. She got a great upbringing as she claims but she chooses a different path for herself. She currently has support from two older married men and works at massaging parlor that offers happy endingsπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰ for a price, and asks, "What is wrong with sex anyway?"

21!????  And she already feels the pressure to live lavish and make money by whatever means possible. What is really happening to us and our outlook on what life is really about? This lady is using sex and money as a means to feel good but its just a way to get instant gratification. If it really made her feel good and she was proud of it, wouldn't she share her newfound cash-cow triangle with her parents? But she hasn't, why? Because it is not something that honestly makes her happy.

As I had said, instant gratification comes in many forms and I fell prey to it. 2018 was the year I questioned my existence and my purpose. Having been unemployed and consequently broke pretty much all the time, social media had a way of making me feel insufficient and small in the eyes of others. Value these days is equated to net worth, being worth a little over nothing, was a clear indication of my place on the Value Scale. I have never been as hopeless and under-motivated as I was this past year just because I didn't have something tangible going for me. It got to a point where I was always so negative, mad and bitter about every bloody thing. I was getting impatient with myself and wondering what I was doing wrong, All my friends are winning and I've been mark-timing on the same spot for months on end. I am not jealous or anything because I was super thrilled that great things were happening for them, but at the back of my head, all I could ask was when will it be my turn?

You end up filling your time with things that give you a hit of dopamine that you crave for, just to trick your mind into thinking your feeling good. In reality, however, you really aren't. The thing about dopamine is that it doesn't make you feel like " this is awesome. I really enjoy this," it's more of a  craving to something, anxiety even " I need this, I have to have more of this." You crave what that thing might give to you. It could be anything from posting sexy pics on IG for likes, going out a lot, excessive drinking, binge eating, drug usage or indulging in sexual activities. Do you relate?

It took my phone getting spoilt around September to facilitate my evolution to a new line of thinking. My absence from the social media scene from then,  till last weekend, has been the ultimate thinking process game changer. Coming into the New Year I promised that I will be patient with my process and I need to re-evaluate my whole understanding of what is of value and appreciate all that I have been currently blessed with. Is it going to be hard? Damn right it will, but it will be well worth it. I need to learn to differentiate between feeling good and the feeling of instant gratification.  I need to get more perspective and quit being a dopamine-slave My main focus should be on enjoying the process as opposed to anticipating the reward.

Instant gratification is all about the anticipation, prediction or desire. It's about the hope of feeling good. Feeling good on the other hand is just that, feeling good during the process and during the outcome

I choose FEELING GOOD, do you?

  1. I usually take 14 or 21 days off social media in a month
And the short cuts ladies use nowadays in order to "climb" the social ladder is terribleπŸ₯ΊπŸ˜πŸ˜

  4. I was there, wishing i was in a financial position my friends were. People randomly planning trips to SA and me thinking wow i wish i had that kind of money. But then i realised i am putting too much pressure on myself. People have different paths and mine might be longer but it will eventually get me there. Don't stop believing in yourself Njeri because you are the only one who can change your destiny. I believe in you and i am damn proud of you❤️. Thank you, this really spoke to me

  5. This is one post I really concur with. About social media, it often leads to us comparing with our negatives with other people's positives, coz lets face it, no one will post their downsides. This is what leads to feelings of inadequacy. My take? Don't believe what people post on social media. It's all a facade.

    Nice piece, NjeriπŸ˜‰

GENDER BASED VIOLENCE; STILL A HUGE THORN IN KENYA'S FLESH

Hey Wisdom Nugget Lovers, Gender based violence encompasses quite a few subtopics i.e  physical assault, verbal abuse, domestic conflicts, defilement, sexual assault and forced marriages. Violence against women and girls knows no race, age, class or culture. It has been happening since time immemorial, some based on stupid ideologies and cultural beliefs among other reasons. It occurs in homes, schools, places of work and entertainment just to name a few .  Domestic violence is defined as   "the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault, and/or other abusive behavior as part of a systematic pattern and control perpetrated by one intimate partner against another. it includes physical violence, physiological violence, and emotional abuse" Just last month we heard about the story of Lucy Njambi who is a victim of Domestic Violence based on her story. Her husband, former Kiambu MCA, who was in the company of unidentifie...

HOW HONEST IS TOO HONEST?πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€”

Is  there something like too honest??? Or is it just something people came up with to protect their egos from reality? Honesty: A virtue so few have yet everyone claims to have it; A trait so many want to portray and act like they can handle it, yet are not emotionally positioned to take it from someone else; A trait that may often come out as rude and bruising yet the intention was pure Don't you just hate it when someone says, "chills for who?" yet for starters, you had no intention for the statement to come off so blunt even though you approve the message.. or is it just me? I feel like it takes away from the true intention of the message. Even though it may be trivial. Late last year I was invited to a surprise birthday party. Everything was going pretty well. Our hommie Omosh had whipped up some fire food.  Good music was playing. The surprise aspect didn't fail(Thank you God!). So it was time to cut the cake. We are all around the dinn...

Objective AchievedπŸ˜‹) Hope I had you at hello tooπŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰ So, how you been? Tell me life is good with a little bumps on the road but you've got this? And if not, are you seeking help? Had you achieved your goals for the 3rd quarter of the year? Have you set other goals for the last quarter? What mental space are you in this last quarter? (The comment section is there for all the responses you want to give... I'd be happy to read your responses) I'll start us off, just to get you a little comfy. Q: How you been? A: I've been quite fine to be honest. Distracted but good. Q: Tell me life is good with a little bumps on the road but you've got this? And if not, are you seeking help? A: What is life without speed bumps? So, despite the curve balls, I got a little bruised on the journey but I KNOW I've got this. Q: Had yo...
